ABOUT

The artKYOTO 2022 Executive Committee will hold the art fair "artKYOTO 2022" for four days from October 14 (Fri.) to 16 (Sun.), 2022 (Thursday, October 13 is an invitation day) at the World Heritage Nijo Castle.
artKYOTO" is an international art fair that will exhibit and sell art works carefully selected by galleries and art dealers from Japan and abroad, launched in 2019 at the World Heritage Site Nijo Castle in order to drive the global art scene. The fair does not limit itself to ancient and modern art of the era, from antiquity to contemporary art, but offers a variety of experiences from appreciation to ownership regarding art that creates value for society from new perspectives, while keeping history in mind.

Kyoto has been the capital of Japan for more than 1,000 years, and has always innovated as a center of Japanese culture. Today, the art market has even greater potential to become the core of new value creation in various fields such as the economy and social infrastructure. In Kyoto, where the Agency for Cultural Affairs is relocating to, the market will open in 2019 under the new name of "2019," and will be held in 2020 at Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site, and the Meiji Ancient Capital of Kyoto National Museum, an Important Cultural Property.

The third edition of artKYOTO 2022 will be held in conjunction with "ART WALK KYOTO," a project commemorating the relocation of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The Nijo Castle Ninomaru Palace Kitchen and Goshojo, which are not open to the public, will be used as a stage to communicate the value and potential of art to the rest of Japan and to the world.
